Final Call for Papers

Lutheran Historical Conference 2000

Lutheranism in America — A 20th Century Retrospective

The biennial meeting of the Lutheran Historical Conference will be held at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Milwaukee, 19-21 October 2000. The Program Committee is in the process of developing the conference schedule beginning with the several significant proposals we have received to date. Proposals for papers or other types of sessions are still invited on the conference theme, “Lutheranism in America — A Twentieth Century Retrospective,” and should be sent no later than 15 June 2000 to Dr. Mary Todd, Department of History, Concordia University, 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL 60305 (crftoddml@curf.edu). The turn of the new century offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the many developments in American Lutheranism in the 20th century. Proposals should conform to that emphasis.

However, the committee has proposed a new type of session for this meeting, a panel titled “Works in Progress.” We encourage scholars who are currently conducting research on a topic to share preliminary findings with the LHC. Papers (or even not-yet-papers) are welcome on any topic, whether under the general theme of the conference or not. Our intention is to provide opportunity for scholars to discuss new ideas and findings, offer hypotheses and seek dialogue and counsel from colleagues. Proposals for this panel should be submitted as above.

Finally, members of the conference who are willing to participate in panels that will be developed around primary themes of 20th century Lutheran history are invited to submit their names to the Program Committee. We look forward to an exciting and historic meeting in October.
